THIS advisory focuses on the procedure applicable to the handling of passengers likely to Constitute an annoyance or potential danger. The procedure detailed below must be followed in the event of passengers presenting themselves for travel who:

  • Appear to be under the influence of alcohol or narcotics and/or
  • Are likely to constitute an annoyance to other passengers or a potential danger to the safety of aircraft
  • Conduct themselves in an improper manner
  • Do not observe the instructions of authorised officials
  • Appear to be suffering from infectious or contagious diseases, including cases of open tuberculosis of the lungs
  • Appear to be of unsound mind
Passengers presenting themselves for travel who are deemed to fall into one of the above categories mentioned above must be referred to the MANAGER ON DUTY who must exercise discretion whether to exclude such a person from the flight or not. Only the CAPTAIN of the aircraft can decide whether a passenger must be excluded from the flight onboard the aircraft. Under no circumstances may passengers who show signs of being heavily intoxicated be permitted to board aircraft. Those passengers who misbehave onboard either before departure of the aircraft or during flight, should be off-loaded at either boarding point or at the first transit stop. These passengers, as well as their baggage should kindly be offloaded in accordance with Civil Aviation Security Regulations, International Standards and the SAA Aviation Security Programme. The station where offloading of the passenger took place, must advise the Destination station by quickest means the circumstances surrounding the incident.
