NEWSFLASH - Cableway Closes For Annual Maintenance

JULY 14, 2009

Table Mountain Cableway has extended its maintenance period from three to four weeks and will be closed from Monday July 20 until Sunday August 16.

Table Mountain Cableway is required to do annual maintenance to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV). The 2009 maintenance plan includes the re-positioning of both cable cars' track ropes. Four Swiss specialised rope workers will fly into assist the Cableway's operational team with this highly technical aspect of the annual maintenance. The main electric motor will also undergo its routine service; and both cars will be re-sprayed in preparation for the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup.

"Incredibly, this is our busiest time of the year as we have teams working hard to ensure that we are fully prepared for another busy summer season. The maintenance period is longer this year as we want to remain operational during the 2010 FIFA Soccer World Cup," said Sabine Lehmann, CEO of Table Mountain Cableway.
